The Kristina Townsend Memorial Competition will be returning March 17, 2018. The competition honors the memory of Kristina Townsend, daughter of founder Erik Buck and Erika Townsend, who passed away of leukemia days before her thirteenth birthday. Kristina loved music and loved to sing and our purpose is to encourage and inspire emerging talented young singers in her name.
One award of each amount to the winner of each of the following categories:
15-17 years old ($100) | 18-19 years old ($300) | 20-22 years old ($500)
Winners will also receive the opportunity to perform at a Townsend Opera event

Singers aged 15 – 22 living or studying full-time in one of the following California counties:
Amador, Calaveras, Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Yolo
All applicants must be able to provide the name of a current voice teacher, either private, choral, or through their educational institution.
No more than 10 minutes of music, at least 2 classical and no more than 1 musical theater selection. Accompanist provided.
Participants 18 and over must prepare selections in at least two different languages.
Participant must bring five (5) copies of their music to the audition; one (1) for the accompanist and four (4) for the judges.

$25 audition fee must be paid upon submission of application.
Audition fee scholarships available upon teacher request.
